Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and the setbacks it created, Metallica still had a banner year. In addition to celebrating their 40th anniversary and playing several high-profile festivals, the band were also honored by both the Governor of California Gavin Newsom, and celebrated with the declaration of ‘Metallica day’ in their adopted hometown of San Francisco, CA.
This past August saw the band’s music video for their track “Nothing Else Matters” join the 1 billion views club on the video streaming service and their performance on other digital service providers remained as booming as ever.
Last year the band revealed that their songs were streamed a collective 1.1 billion times on Spotify. As they newly revealed today, they bested that number this year, with 1.3 billion streams being racked up across 58 million listeners in 178 countries. That all equated to 112.2 million hours of Metallica‘s music being streamed on Spotify alone this year.
